As you know, I usually like to reserve this space to look at technical issues that might interest my fellow engineers. However, on Oct 4th, AP is introducing a significant enhancement to our electro-acoustic test suite for the APx, and I want to highlight what this means for our customers.
Since we started AP, we've focused on the performance and reliability of our hardware, plus making the software easier to use on a daily basis and easier to automate for the production line. I think we've been successful, and indeed measurements done with an AP are considered the recognized standard around the world.
For some time, our customers have been asking for more acoustic-specific measurements so their acoustic design can get the same “AP-level” assurance of quality as their electronics. You've asked for a complete suite of electro-acoustic measurements for evaluating drivers in R&D, integrating drivers & electronics, and final product QA. We also get requests from driver manufacturers looking for hardware that's more reliable and easier to automate.
With APx v3.4, I think we can say we have delivered as requested.
Our acoustic suite now includes impedance tests, complete Thiele-Small parameters, rub and buzz, air leak detection, quasi-anechoic reflection gating, polar plots, waterfalls, plus all the standard level, phase, frequency response and distortion measurements you'd expect. There’s also a production test mode that returns all the results you need with a single 1 second sweep.
The details are below. I hope you will download the demo software on Oct 4 and we are looking forward to hearing your evaluation.
